A Message To Parents Or Guardians Who Have Concerns About Their Child's Development


​You share a special bond with your child that no one else possesses.  Therefore, you have the ability to sense things about your child that others are not able to understand.  As a parent or guardian, you may experience a gut feeling that something does not seem quite right with the development of your child.  Trusting your intuition and immediately seeking the appropriate assistance is an extremely important and essential step in getting help for your child.  Because a doctor’s order is needed to receive medically-based therapy services, we recommend that family members speak with a pediatrician to pursue an occupational therapy evaluation for your child.  It may be necessary obtaining an opinion from more than one physician in order to find a professional who you can trust and takes your concerns seriously.  Some doctors like to wait and see if your child will outgrow difficulties before providing a referral for therapy services.
